Luxury watchmakers are mining the ocean and beyond to power timepieces that merge timeless craftsmanship with sustainable innovation. Blending precision with purpose, these watches prove that conscious design can still keep impeccable time.
1. Ulysse Nardin Diver NET Vendée Globe, price upon request

Named after the punishing solo round-the-world sailing competition, the Vendée Globe, Ulysse Nardin’s limited-edition watch is crafted from a wealth of recycled materials, including upcycled fishing nets, carbon fibres and silicon. A limited edition of 300 pieces, the watch also possesses an outstanding 50-jewel bearing.
2. Alpina Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic Watch, CDN $2,395

Alpina’s collection of limited-edition, eco-minded timepieces draws inspiration from the very source of its materials—plastic waste collected from ocean gyres, which is then recycled into the watches’ casing. The sporty piece is part of the brand’s Seastrong offering, which features AL-525 self-winding movement and deep water resistance.
3. ID x Kauri Mineral Black, CDN $7,574

ID Geneve has launched a collaboration with eco-retailer Kauri to create a new timepiece. The watchmaker, known for its lab linked to sustainability-driven companies like Vegea and Panatere, designed the watch to feature upcycled ebony wood offcuts from the local forestry industry.
4. Chopard Alpine Eagle XL Chrono, CDN $30,200

An updated take on the St. Moritz style launched in 1980, Chopard’s Alpine Eagle XL Chrono contains one of the watchmaker’s most innovative design achievements: its proprietary Lucent Steel material. A hypoallergenic, high-performance original alloy, which made its debut in 2019, was initially created using 70 per cent recycled steel sourced from medical-grade, aerospace and aviation-grade metal scraps; today, that number has grown to 80 per cent.
